During the course of his BMus degree, Gordon developed a special interest in piano accompanying, and performed the following works among others:
Beethoven, Piano Trio in B flat op. 97 Archduke
Brahms, Horn Trio in E flat op. 40
Brahms, Clarinet Trio in a minor, op. 114
Finzi, Let us Garlands Bring song cycle
Vaughan Williams, Serenade to Music
Purcell, The Fairy Queen and Dido and Aeneas (harpsichord continuo)
Vivaldi, The Four Seasons (harpsichord continuo)
Gordon also developed his skills in jazz piano, working with the University of Aberdeen Big Band as both pianist and conductor, and on harpsichord continuo with the Baroque Ensemble, featuring in performances of Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas and The Fairy Queen.
Gordon remains active as a collaborative pianist, formerly with the University of Aberdeen Choral Society before the society stopped meeting, and on a freelance basis accompanying musicians in exams and recitals. He also remains one of the staff pianists for the music exams administered by the University of Aberdeen (www.abdn.ac.uk/music).
